We have been living a cup dream for the past 28 years since Kapil and his men lifted it for us in 1983. Six world cups have gone begging and seventh which started on a promising note has started to shake here and there.To the speculation building around team India as a strong contender has less number of believers to what it had before the campaign for the cup begin.Where are we standing......how close or how far..will be decided over the course of comming 1 month.
We started shaky....First match and first shock our neighbours known as minnows of cricket chased
a target of 370 like ther are playing a very normal opposition,then again a cushion of too many runs on the board saved us..but exposed our weakness to go for the kill in such matches and win them with a huge margin..
England came and taught us a lesson that you can't hide behind the wall of runs and feel safe,if you don't have the capacity to defend the runs on board,you have to end up on the loosing side..or a tie..which in this case was as good as a loss.....You can't expect a top ICC ranked team to be so extravagant that they end up spending 340 odd runs in 50 overs..............
Ireland much talked about minnows of the tournament who proved their metal against strong teams in the tournament.....came to meet team India in Bangalore....our bowlers had a nice lunch of 10 Irish wickets but thanks to our bad digestion we faltered in batting and ended up winning in 47th over..all thanks to few hits out of the park by Yusuf or else the match was destined to go down to the wire till the last over.....
Netherlands ...also made sure that our seven top order batsman should spend time on the 22 yard strip in the center to chase a modest total of 189 runs.....good for the batting to be in practice but bad for the top order for not been able to spend time at crease and have a nice score under their belt..
South Africa...... now we had some serious opposition to face,all strategies and practice done for the tournament was supposed to be shown in the field..Best worrier of this battle again showed that why is he god of cricket...he kept the game in India's favour for 40 overs ......rest was a sad story.Batsman gave it away...and people who made their way in the team being a dasher were not out on 10 odd runs facing 23 balls....number 7,8,9,10,11 all tried to hit the ball but dasher wanted to make sure that he continue giving the strike to the new batsman on crease...Then Nehra's and Patel's had their part to be played in the match ......Nehra who has been in and out of the team and who has recovered from the injury....was given the responsibility of the 100th over of the match and he decided to do the justice............he opened the eyes of all that weak bowling will be exposed and will fetch you weak results only....
